I’ve always been a fan of the workout DVD because no one can judge you sweating away in your living room with your pijama shorts and tattered sports bra BUT yourself.
It’s also cheap and conveniently equipment-free, and you don’t need a lot of space to get the job done.
I recently purchased Jillian Michaels’ (from the Biggest Loser) DVD entitled Banish Fat Boost Metabolism. And the reason why I chose this so-called fat blasting workout is because Jillian Michaels is a bad-ass lady and frankly her workouts scare me. I didn’t see the point of buying a workout DVD that I couldn’t do, which would effectively make me feel worse and put off working out for another three months, so I got this one because of her workouts it looked THE EASIEST.
Today was the second time I tried it out. The first time, I got through three circuits of cardio in half an hour. I looked on the DVD and I had had to stop it so many times that the workout video had only been playing for 11 minutes. Truly sad.
This time, I made it to circuit five out of like 100 it seems, because it took me almost an hour to get through only 30 minutes of her video. I had to stop a couple times to catch my breath and one time to resist throwing up. As Jillian says, ‘This is not your mother’s workout.’
She tells you what to do in this ridiculous commanding man-voice, but she knows what she is doing and her mix of kickboxing and circuit training is effective. Also, it’s hard to get bored of doing the same DVD when I can’t get through the whole thing yet. Totally worth $10.
I have no scale and don’t measure my fitness by my skinniness, BUT I hope to notice an increased ability to run for the bus and climb my apartment stairs without losing my breath. Fingers crossed.
